News & Information on the eLearning Africa - eLA conference, an annual event for building eLearning capacities in Africa
SchoolNet Africa - Preparing the Digital Future
The Digital Divide is synonymous with the lack of capacities in connectivity, bandwidth and computers in all sectors but especially in the education systems. SchoolNet Africa is an organisation that aims to build capacities, to develop structures and to foster digital skills. SchoolNet Africa's vision is for the empowerment of all of Africa's children and youth through access to quality education, information, and knowledge on the basis of their effective use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). The mission is to support national SchoolNets throughout Africa by mobilizing resources and building effective partnerships. Shafika Isaacs is the Executive Director of SchoolNet Africa. The Pre-Conference Workshops and Seminars are online
A programme of optional Seminars and Workshops will take place on Wednesday, May 24th, offering participants the opportunity to learn a new skill, enhance their knowledge or gather information about a specific topic.
Not only are such activities excellent opportunities in themselves but they are also extremely valuable pre-conference networking activities in their own right. These are either full- or half-day events. Since the number of participants is limited, early booking is recommended. Please follow the link to the detailed list of the pre-conference workshops and seminars...

Health Training on a Large Scale
Africa is the continent most affected by HIV and AIDS. Especially Sub-Saharan Africa, which has just over 10% of the world's population, is home to almost two-thirds of all people living with HIV - close to 26 million people. Each year more than three million new infections will increase these already terrible numbers. Millions of people have already died of the disease; twelve million children have lost their parents. This dramatic situation demands strong and effective action from the health sector...

Towards a "European-African Pact on ICT for Development"
European R & D projects have started to include African partners. A well-defined inclusive approach of European IST projects, directed toward developing countries, is however just in its start-up phase. eLearning Africa supports the inclusion of counterparts in developing countries in the forthcoming IST programmes and will become a meeting point for ICT and IST stakeholders both from Africa and Europe embarking on new joint R&D networks.
